Qualifications:

Minimum level high school graduate or have an equivalent General Education Development Certificate (GED) with strong math classes. Ongoing training may include: CET I certified inspection training as per KDOT requirements, new safety procedures and new or changed county policies or procedures.

Responsibilities:

Job Objectives: Technical work in the field of civil engineering technology work involving the performance of a variety of technical duties associated with planning, location, design, construction, inspection, materials testing and surveying of roads, bridges, flood control and other civil engine engineering projects. Essential Job Functions: Make basic engineering computations. Inspect construction on LPA and other projects. Perform various duties on survey crew while being trained to survey. Assist public with survey records. Compile, scan, and file survey and engineering records. Perform material testing. Maintain written records as required for completion of daily task sheets. Perform normal cleanup in work areas. Perform emergency operations such as snow and ice removal operations. Train for Civil Engineering Technician II duties. Accountable for all phases of Engineering Technician I position description and other duties as may be assigned within level of expertise and training. Employee is responsible for obtaining and maintaining all certification requirements relative to the position. Follow established Reno County Safety policies and practice, at all times, safe working conditions. Be aware of safety when working in areas also used by the driving public.

Other Information:

20% indoors and 80% outdoors. Exposure to summer heat, winter cold and other inclement weather conditions. Work around noise of road machinery. Work areas may be dusty. Occasional exposure to poisonous insects, animals and plants. Some exposure to exhaust fumes from equipment in truck shed and shop. At times will work in proximity of public traffic. Periodic use of materials, which have an MSDS report on how to safely handle them. Indoor duties performed in climate-controlled surroundings with no outside light. All use of equipment (hand operated or self-propelled) entails hazardous exposure if not operated in a safe manner.
