Qualifications:

The Event/Communications & Downtown Coordinator will have a minimum of a bachelor's degree is a business or marketing related field. Must be proficient in the use of standard office, online, and mobile communication and customer relations management software. Must have a positive attitude and image as well as strong written and oral communication skills. Candidates must be able to communicate easily with clients and partners.

This position primarily consists of office and interpersonal work. Some limited to moderate physically strenuous activities are associated with this position in relation to preparing for membership events, which may include: (1) moving tables and chairs in preparation for various meetings, (2) assist event staff and partners in preparation and set up for events, (3) extensive travel within Reno County by car to visit businesses or event facilities and may require occasional over-night stay, (4) significant time prior, during, and after events insuring appropriate preparation, good programs, and complete event take down.

 

Responsibilities:

The Events/Communication & Downtown Coordinator would be a shared position between the Hutch Chamber and Visit Hutch. This position will help coordinate the Chamber's and Visit Hutch's communication strategy including all forms of public and media relations, web-based outreach and social network, as well as planning and execution of special events. Necessary skills include good verbal and written communication skills, strong computer skills and knowledge of all MS Office programs, knowledge of website management, and the ability to handle sensitive issues with diplomacy and confidentiality.

This position shall be accountable to the President and Vice-President of the Chamber.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Write and compile the monthly Chamber newsletter.
  • Assist in writing and distributing press releases.
  • Produce a monthly Visit Hutch sales report for supervisor, as well as quarterly reports for Visit Hutch Board of Directors.
  • Manage the Downtown Hutch, Visit Hutch, and Hutch Chamber social media presence.
  • Assist in annual budget preparation and oversee expenses and financial commitments related to all social media and website for Hutch Chamber and Visit Hutch.
  • Provide primary oversight and maintenance of hutchchamber.com, visithutch.com, and KDWPT website presence and conduct monthly website analysis for each site. 
  • Assist with Non-Fair and sporting event group servicing tasks.
  • Assist with oversight of Market Hutch agency of record.
  • Assist in management and coordinator of Downtown Hutch program including assisting with Downtown programming, activities, and monthly meetings. 
  • Attend monthly Chamber board meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the President or Vice President.

The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce drives economic development efforts in the region through business retention  and recruitment, promotion of area attractions and events, and taking a leadership role in projects and initiatives dedicated to maintaining and improving the area's economy and quality of life.

Visit Hutch is a division of the Hutch Chamber. It functions independently although many aspects of the organization's goals require cooperation between the two entities. Both are housed within the same office environment. The mission statement for Visit Hutch states the organization is dedicated to the service, support and promotion of tourism and economic development in the Greater Hutchinson area.

Downtown Hutch, another division of the Hutch Chamber unites the private and public sectors within the community to coordinate and leverage activities involved in the enhancement of downtown.

The Hutch Chamber strives to serve as "one voice" with the strength to take the area to new levels in economic development and business success.

FLSA Designation - The Communication/Events & Downtown Coordinator is classified as an 'Administrative' position and is thereby considered to be an exempt position per the FLSA duties and compensation guidelines.
