Qualifications:

High school diploma or G.E.D., KLETC certification and field training program completion. Shall be a US citizen and at least 18 years of age. Shall be screened for a record of criminal activity and criminal history using a named-based record check before employment is offered or before job duties are assigned that might expose them to KCJIS-sensitive information. Shall be screened for a record of criminal activity and criminal history using a fingerprint-based check within 30 days after initial employment or assignment and before unconditional employment is offered.

Responsibilities:

Job Objectives: The primary objective of this position is to protect life and property, preserve the peace, control crime by reducing the occurrence of successful criminal events, apprehend criminals and enforce in a fair and impartial manner the laws of Kansas. Patrol officers may be assigned as part of their regular duties to specialized units of enforcement such as, the Special Operations Response Team, the Drug Enforcement Unit, the Offender Registry program, Courthouse Security Deputy, School Resource Officer (SRO) program, D.A.R.E. or Crime Prevention. Patrol officers may also be assigned to collect delinquent personal property taxes or perform service of summons, subpoenas, garnishments, restraining orders, executions and replevins, writs, protection from abuse orders and forcible ejections orders or to seize property and real estate and assist with foreclosures and tax sales. Assist and ensure the daily security operations of the courthouse are run safely and efficiently as well as maintain the safety of all courthouse employees and patrons. Essential Job Functions: Protect life and property, maintain public order, patrol to prevent criminal activities, respond to calls for service, enforce criminal laws, investigate crimes, offenses and incidents. Collect and preserve evidence, serve arrest and search warrants, direct and control traffic and enforce traffic laws. Investigate motor vehicle accidents. provide emergency services at catastrophic occurrences, develop relationships between citizens and the Sheriff’s Department and provide severe weather watch and reporting. Assist with animal control, maintain vehicle and personnel equipment and perform residential and business building checks.
