Qualifications:

Prefer B.S.N. degree or BS/BA in early childhood, elementary education, child development, human development, social work or any other related fields. Experience in nursing, childcare, social work, personal interaction, child development, home economics, safety and environment. Background in nursing, social work, early childhood development or related field to provide ability to assess and make proper decisions. Must be knowledgeable of KDHE regulations for all levels of childcare licensing. Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.

Responsibilities:

Job Objectives: Conduct/perform childcare licensing in Reno County in accordance with Kansas’s regulations. Investigation of childcare complaints. Education of childcare providers. Essential Job Functions: Perform initial, compliance, complaint, and annual childcare facility surveys. Maintain records and reports per Kansas Department of Health and Environment requirements. Provide appropriate consultations on acceptable childcare practices by phone, in person and electronically. Maintain a working relationship with KDHE regarding case progress, proper citation of regulations and request of interpretations. Provide orientation class for prospective childcare providers. Prepare grant reports. Initiate the investigation of childcare complaints within one week, as per KDHE guidelines. Investigate unregulated providers within a week of receiving initial report or complaint. Coordinate child related activities and events with other agencies/organizations. Review childcare immunization records. Conduct career education presentations, as requested. Conduct communicable disease surveillance, as required. Participate in public relation activities. Provide general regulatory information on childcare facilities in Reno County. May perform other general public health nursing activities on special occasions if an RN. Prepare and work with EH clerk on the monthly billing statements and processing of encounters to childcare providers. Participate in quality improvement projects and accreditation as requested.
