On October 15th, as part of Manufacturing Month in Reno County, Greater Hutch, an economic development partnership for Reno County, hosted teachers from Buhler High School USD 313 on a manufacturing industry tour. Local manufacturers Collins Bus Corporation, Kuhn Krause, and Superior Boiler Works opened their doors for the USD 313 teachers for facility tours and company presentations. The tour aimed to build connections between local manufacturers and educators to work together in preparing the workforce of tomorrow.

The teachers became the students during the presentations, which showed what Reno County manufacturing companies are looking for in employees aside from technical skills and experience. Questions that followed each presentation cultivated focused discussion on how educators can prepare their students when it comes to soft skills. Each company tour gave teachers a first-hand look into how their classes and coursework are being utilized in the manufacturing industry every day from communication to mathematics.

“We want to make sure that we are telling the story of those career paths and opportunities that our quality employers in Reno County offer, so that the future workforce knows that manufacturing is a rewarding career path that they can have,” said Abby Stockebrand, Greater Hutch Economic Development Manager, of the goals for the manufacturing tours. “In addition, we want to make sure there isn’t a disconnect between what the employers need and what our educators know that Reno County has available to the workforce.”
